ECAS<\/a> – European Citizen Action Service, an international NGO based in Brussels – has published a report in which I was one of interviewees as a coordinatior of the DEMOcrisis<\/a> project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hendrik Nahr was conducting research for the DEMOS project funded by European Commission under the program Horison2020. Stowarzyszenie Poczucia was one of the NGOs selected to take part in the research due to the organisation of an Erasmus Plus training course DEMOcrisis: Fostering Active Citizenship in Times of a Crisis<\/em>. It was a one-week course held in October 2019 in Serock near Warsaw with various exercises – group processes about hate speech and voting, de Bono Six Thinking Hats about populism and visit to the Amnesty International HQ in Warsaw organised by me – aimed to give a broader perspective on raising populistic movements in Europe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the interwiev we have discussed above all methodology used during the TC and survey applied before the TC to gather the knowledge what people think about populism and what is their knowledge about contemporary situation in Poland. What I find much valuable is the part of the report where we talk about the group process: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

„Another curious example of including populist narratives was provided by DEMOcrisis, who implemented a „group process about fake news, because it is someting used by populists”. The chosen methos was splitting participants into two groups: one that argued for something (in this case „the use of fake news”) and one that argued against it. It was noticed that: „On the side that [fake news should be] used, the main strength is that it works. […] For example, we had hate speech about immigrants used by the populist [Polish] government. And although you can say later it is not right […] it leaves the association to immigrants that the are a threat”. Space was intentionally provided for participants to confront populist narratives with the goal of deconstructing them.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
