One week ago Stowarzyszenie Poczucia organised an international training course DEMOcrisis co-founded with the Erasmus Plus grant. I was the coordinator and one of the trainers in the project – with Rosanna Bellomo from Italy (Union Pro Europe) and Noa Philippon from Spain (Xuventude Verde polo Cambio). We gathered in Serock 21 youthworkes from seven European countries (Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Poland, Latvia). The training focused on the raise of populist movements across Europe, crisis of democratic values and hate in public debate getting stronger. Our inspiration was the 2019 year and what was happening during it – the European elections, planned and moved Brexit and national elections in Poland.
This topic is very close to me. That is why I wanted to involve an NGO dealing with this delicate matter and I arranged a minitraining in the Amnesty International Poland led by Michał Kłopocki and Mikołaj Czerwiński and opened by the President of AI Poland Draginja Nadażdin. We discussed how the AI works, what are the threats to Polish democracy nowadays and how the government made attempts to limit the juridical independence od Polish courts.

I wanted to deepen the topic, so I led various techniques like the De Bono Six Thinking Hats, the group process and the discussion about the assasination of the President Adamowicz and how it was connected with the raise of hate speech in Poland. Our group process brought to an interesting conclusion about voting in democracy – should votes be treated equaly no matter what or is it somehow not fair that somebody who has zero level of knowledge and understanding how the society functions has the same influence as me?
But the training not only was about getting new knowledge and competences but also about having some fun 🙂 That’s why I led the laughter yoga sessions and organised a trip to the Zegrze Reservoir close to our venue.

But everything has its end 🙁 Our last day was full of surprises and new experiences. We found out who our secret friends were (yesss Rosanna), made the pizza evaluation of the project and received Youthpasses. I hope the story goes and Poczucia will organise the next project, not only about democracy 🙂

Handling the Youthpasses
